COMMISSARY

Located in the Main Exchange complex, the commissary provides quality products to authorized patrons at cost, helping customers save more than 30% on their total grocery bill. Available services include bakery, deli, sushi, fresh lobster, and plants. The deli makes wonderful sandwiches that can be made to order. Semi-annual truckload sales are held in May and September that historically have provided savings of 50% or more. Hours of operation: Sun: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; Mon: Closed; Tues: 9 a.m.-7 p.m.; Wed-Fri: 10 a.m.-7 p.m.; and Sat: 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Early Bird customers are welcome 8-10 a.m., Tue-Sun, for “self checkout” only.

CRIME PREVENTION

The Provost Marshal’s Office conducts several crime prevention programs. The Child Identification (fingerprinting) Program is designed to help law enforcement officials in the identification and/or location of missing, lost or abducted children.

Operation ID is designed to discourage burglaries and theft through the marking and registering of personal property for people who live in barracks or government housing and for all civilians working at Cherry Point.

LIFELONG LEARNING VOLUNTARY EDUCATION

The Education Office is temporarily located in Room 205 of the Jerry Marvel Training and Education Building 4335. The Education Office administers the command’s Off-Duty Voluntary Education Program using tuition assistance and offers education programs ranging from high school completion/GED to a Doctoral Degree. Counseling is provided for educational pursuits and the education office offers complete testing services to include DANTES tests, interest inventories, Marine Corps classification tests, proctoring test services and pearson VUE certification tests and the GMAT. Programs are also available for the United Services Military Apprenticeship Program (USMAP), Military Academic Skills Program (MASP), Distance Learning/Internet classes, deployed education, SOCMAR agreements, SMART transcripts and other educational services. FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS

There are two financial institutions located on Cherry Point offering a wide range of services to fit the individual needs of military and civilian personnel.

Bank
First Citizens Bank and Trust Company at 201 Carteret Road (beside McDonalds) operates complete banking facilities aboard the air station, including direct deposit. Hours for the main office and its drive-thru window are: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Wednesday and military paydays 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. The bank also offers a 24-hour drive-thru automated teller machine. Credit Union
First Flight Federal Credit Union (behind the Joint Education Center) is a full-service financial institution providing members the opportunity to accumulate savings, establish credit and enhance their financial well-being. First Flight FCU serves military and civilian employees of the federal government, along with their family members, plus employees and family members of on-base contractors. The credit union offers a full range of products and services including: savings and checking accounts; vehicle, mortgage and personal loans; allotments, direct deposit and ATMs. And with its sixteen conveniently located ATMs on the air station and in the surrounding communities, First Flight FCU offers convenience to its members who live or do business on or off base.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS

The Joint Public Affairs Office produces the air station’s award-winning weekly newspaper, The Windsock, published each Thursday and distributed on the air station and throughout neighboring communities. The PAO also produces the official Cherry Point and 2d Marine Aircraft Wing websites at http://www.marines.mil/unit/mcascherrypoint/Pages/default.aspx, and manages the official Cherry Point and 2d MAW social networking sites. All media events are coordinated through this office and Marine combat correspondents are assigned to report on individual units of the air station and 2d MAW.

The PAO conducts air station tours during weekdays by appointment only. Tours for special interest groups may be scheduled by requesting (30 days in advance) via e-mail by visiting the Cherry Point website. Click Community Relations, then click Tours, and fill out the form. Tours may also be scheduled by calling (252) 466-4241.

The Community Relations section also takes requests for military participation and involvement in community events, including volunteers, guest speakers and color guards. Details on what is eligible and how to request support are available on the website.

LEGAL ASSISTANCE

Legal assistance services are available to all active duty service members, retirees and their family members with ID card. The primary mission of the office is to support deploying personnel by providing necessary wills, powers of attorney and associated client services. Secondary to that mission is providing other legal services for eligible clients to enhance morale and military effectiveness. Walk-ins are seen daily starting at 0730 but please arrive early as slots fill up fast. To schedule an appointment, call 466-2311/2361. The Legal Assistance office is located in the Joint Law Center, building 219.

Notary public services are also available at the Joint Law Center’s Legal Assistance office, Monday-Friday, 7:30-11:30 a.m. and
1-4:30 p.m., or by appointment at 466-2311/2361.

LOCATOR

Military and civilian personnel wishing to locate friends aboard the air station should contact the military locator at 466-2811, and civilian locator at 466-2109, seven days a week.

NAVY/MARINE CORPS RELIEF

The Cherry Point office of NMCRS is located in Bldg 232. It provides a wide range of services and financial assistance to Marine and Navy families -- active duty and retirees. They also have a visiting nurse who makes house calls to help with all medical questions or issues. If you have a question for the visiting nurse or to request a home visit, please call 466-4617. The office is open from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Please call 466-2031 to make an appointment or visit http://www.nmcrs.org.

POST OFFICE

Complete postal facilities are provided by the Cherry Point Post Office, located on the corner of 2nd Avenue and “C” Street. The building houses the Cherry Point military post office (zip code 28533) and the Cherry Point Branch of the Havelock Post Office (zip code 28532). Government housing areas off and on the air station are serviced by the main Havelock Post Office, which is located off-base in nearby Havelock. Civilian postal service operations (for personal mail and post office boxes) are available here Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. The main Havelock Post Office is open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. It is important for all people new to the area to check
in with the postal service center to determine the appropriate method of personal mail delivery. Hours of operation on the military side for registered, certified and express mail are
7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Mail clerks aboard the air station who pick up official government mail and personal mail delivered to military units will work from a more detailed schedule.)

RAPIDS

The RAPIDS Office provides identification cards to all military service active duty, reserve, family members, retirees, DOD civilians, and civilian contractors that come aboard MCAS Cherry Point. DEERS enrollment for medical eligible members is completed here also. The RAPIDS Office is located in Bldg. 298, and working hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., unless otherwise posted. Retirees and dependents may make appointments or walk in. All other customers are handled on a walk-in basis only. The phone numbers are 466-3330/7390/3243/3212.

STATION LIBRARY

Located on “E” Street in building 298, the Warrior Library provides academic and public library services from book checkouts to audio books. Cherry Point’s library is affiliated with state and national library programs to offer research services supportive of educational programs offered locally. It also offers movies, music recordings, foreign language materials (including Rosetta Stone CD-ROMs), an inter-library loan service, a children’s collection, weekly story time programs, recreational reading materials, computers with Internet capabilities and scanning, and wireless Internet access. The library’s catalog and a variety of research databases are available via the library’s website: http://library.usmc-mccs.org. RELIGIOUS SERVICES

Memorial Chapel is located on “E” Street next to the air station post office. Normal working hours are from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday. Appointments for counseling and other services can be made by calling 466-4000. 2d MAW personnel may also contact the group or wing chaplain at 466-3314. A duty chaplain is available for emergencies after normal working hours, weekends and holidays by calling PMO at 466-3615.

MCCS, Leisure, Tickets and Travel Office (ITT) is located in bldg 3918, at the MCX near the Military Clothing Store. The hours of operation are Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The leisure travel office offers discounts for all your travel needs. We offer great discounts on cruises, airline tickets, and customized vacation packages, as well as, all major theme parks including Busch Gardens, Kings Dominion, Six Flags over Georgia, and Universal Studios Parks -- to name a few. We specialize in Disney Vacations, all major resorts and honeymoon packages. We also offer wonderful group trips to such well known places as the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC, the 8th & I Evening Parade held in Washington, DC, and the famous boardwalk in Atlantic City, NJ.
