MARINE CORPS COMMUNITY SERVICES

MCCS provides a wide array of opportunities for recreation, entertainment and self-improvement aboard the Combat Center. MCCS offers scores of free fitness and leisure-time activities to Marines, Sailors, their families, retirees and civilian employees. MCCS also provides shopping, dining and other Quality of Life services at nominal or discounted rates for the convenience and benefit of Combat Center patrons. With an emphasis on the “Total Marine,” MCCS provides avenues for continuing education and community service.

The Main Exchange continues to expand to serve their customers. The Main Exchange continues to offer the brand name quality of a major department store plus the lowest possible prices. Shop for electronics, sporting goods, clothing, jewelry, books, music, house wares, health items and more. Stretch your dollars with major sales, and selected Double Coupon Mondays. MAIN SEVEN DAY STORE

Shop 365 days a year at MCCS’s 7-Day Store in the Main Exchange Mall, Bldg. 1533.  It’s your quick stop for snacks, beverages, magazines, personal items, and more.  Choose from a wide assortment of wine, beer and liquor.  The 7-Day Store at the Main Exchange Mall is open 24 hours a day on weekends.  Call 830-6138.

The home store is located on Del Valle road in building 1024 next to the commissary. ENTERPRISE RENT-A-CAR

Whether you need a car to get around the base or around the state, Enterprise offers quality vehicles at great prices for Marines, Sailors and other MCCS-eligible patrons. FINANCE CENTER/CHECK CASHING

MCCS provides free check-cashing services at the cashier windows inside the Main Exchange, Bldg 1533. The check cashing windows
are also accessible from the sidewalk on the south side of the Main Exchange building. Cash personal checks for up to $200 a day.

INFORMATION, TICKETS AND TOURS

Get discount tickets to major Southern California attractions such as Disneyland, Universal Studios, San Diego Zoo and much more. ITT luxury bus tours include trips to TV game shows, shopping centers, ski resorts, Las Vegas and more. Ask about hotel discounts when you visit the ITT office inside the Main Exchange Mall. JT AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE STATION

This is a full-service auto service center. Mechanics are on duty for everything from fixing flats to major repairs. Ask about California Smog Certifications for out-of-state vehicles. Bulk propane sales are available. It is located in Bldg. 1078 on Agate Rd. Call (760) 830-6693/6553.

GAS STATION

Pumps are open 24 hours for credit card sales, open 7 days a week. Handicap assistance is available during regular business hours. Located on Del Valle Street, building 1078. Call (760) 830-6615.

LAKE HAVASU RESERVATION CENTER

Enjoy the comforts of home at one of nine vacation rentals at Lake Havasu, Ariz. Fully stocked with all the conveniences of home, these rentals are only $45.00 per night Sunday through Thursday, and $55.00 per night Friday and Saturday, $60.00 per night on Memorial Day, 4th July and Labor Day. Take advantage of the numerous water sports, golfing, shopping and dining opportunities at Lake Havasu. LAUNDROMATS

Enjoy the clean, comfortable atmosphere of MCCS’ self-serve, coin-operated laundromats. The main laundromat is located in Bldg. 1500 and has 26 washers and 11 dryers plus a large-capacity washer for those extra-heavy loads. MILITARY CLOTHING

MILITARY COMMUNICATION CENTER

The Military Communication Center is in Bldg. 1519T1, next to the West Gym Fitness Center. Check e-mail, chat, surf the Web and much

AUTO SKILLS CENTER

MCCS’ Auto Skills Center makes development of life-long personal skills for do-it-yourself car repair easy. Access 20 outdoor work bays, 10 indoor bays, tools, diagnostics, lifts, a paint booth and more. Receive a computerized printout of instructions for your car, or ask an on-staff expert for assistance. BOWLING CENTER

Sandy Hills Lanes offers open, league, cosmic, and competitive bowling.  Located in Bldg. 1584, the 20-lane facility has new computerized scoring, new synthetic lanes and a full service pro shop with personalized services and coaching available by certified staff. An attractive award winning Snack Bar has many items to choose from to include pizza, salads, burger, sandwiches, fried foods and cold beverages. Many party packages are available to include bowling and barbeque or pizza, or just for a birthday or group bowling get together. DESERT WINDS GOLF COURSE

Play 18 holes year-round at MCCS’ Desert Winds Golf Course. This championship-rated course has rental clubs available for all MCCS-authorized patrons, a driving range and electric carts. To preserve the course, free soft spikes are issued at the pro shop. Metal spikes are not allowed. Ask about golf lessons taught by PGA Golf Pro Todd Wade, annual tournaments and weekly rate specials. Enjoy a quiet breakfast or lunch in a park like setting Duffers Retreat Snack Bar. SUNSET CINEMA

MCCS invites you to enjoy a $1 movie every day and twice on weekends. Sunset Cinema offers first-run and sneak preview features in the
plush comfort of a 1,100-seat facility with a full-service snack bar offering free drink refills with each movie.  This facility is also available for unit presentations, training, command functions and live performances throughout the year. WOOD HOBBY SHOP/SIGNS & DESIGNS
(LASER ENGRAVING SERVICE)

The Wood Hobby Shop requires patrons to attend a free one-time safety class on Saturday at 11 a.m. or Wednesday at 6 p.m.  Unlimited use of all the power tools and stationary machines are included.  In their retail shop they offer an excellent selection of hard woods, stain and other wood working needs.  For more information about the Wood Hobby Shop call (760) 830-7214.  Completion of the twice-weekly scheduled (Saturday Mornings or Wednesday Evening) safety class is required.

BOWLING CENTER SNACK BAR

The Bowling Center Snack Bar is in the newly renovated Sandy Hills Lanes Bowling Center. It has a full menu including burgers, sandwiches, soup, salad and more.  Bowlers and non-bowlers can enjoy the great snack bar at this MCCS facility.  Ask about party packages. Savor gourmet coffee with fresh pastries, or try the breakfast and lunch menus at this all-ranks java bar. MCCS invites you to enjoy billiards,

COMBAT CENTER OFFICERS’ CLUB

The Combat Center Officers’ Club, Bldg. 1573, offers all hands lunch Monday through Friday with tasty daily specials.  Bring the whole family to
the all-hands Sunday Brunch.  We also have the best dinners on the base.  Monday night is Steak Night.  Wednesday night is Pasta Night, that includes a child size ice cream sundae bar.  Thursday night is Seafood Night.  All dinners are served from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.   In addition, the Officers’ Pub is located inside the Officers’ Club.  Play darts, enjoy music, and catch sports action on the big screen television.

SLEEPY TORTOISE LODGE

This temporary lodging facility offers 36 rooms that provide the comforts of home for personnel arriving or departing from the Combat Center. Rooms feature kitchenettes, dining areas, cable TV, in-room VCRs and complimentary coffee, teas, cocoa and cider. Ideal for families, the Sleepy Tortoise has a large playground, a picnic area with barbecue grills and a Laundromat. This proud facility has earned Headquarters Marine Corps’ “Excellence in Food and Hospitality” award 10 times. High Speed Internet Access is available in each room. No-fee copying and Fax machine use is available 24 hours a day.  Complimentary continental breakfast is served, Monday through Friday. COMMUNITY CENTER

The Community Center is available for meetings, parties, training classes and special occasions of all kinds. Free Aerobic and cardio classes are offered weekly. EAST GYM AND FITNESS CENTER

Play basketball or racquetball, dip into the co-ed spa or relax in the sauna. Work out with the latest cardiovascular equipment and free weights in a bright “health club” atmosphere. OUTDOOR ADVENTURES

You must see the assortment of rental items at this MCCS facility to believe it. Here are just a few; camping equipment, lawn mowers, snow and water skis, party equipment, tables and chairs, flag football equipment, port-a-beds and bicycles ... and that is just the beginning. SINGLE MARINE PROGRAM

The MCAGCC SMP program is one of the top-rated programs in the Marine Corps. It improves the Quality of Life for single Marines and Sailors through numerous recreational and entertainment opportunities. In addition to parties, trips and recreational events, SMP provides participants with the chance to build life skills through volunteer work in community service programs for various trips and activities. SWIMMING POOLS

MCCS maintains three pools.

The Training Tank offers Marines an Olympic-size pool for training and recreational swimming. The Training Tank is heated and open year-round for lap swimming, and unit training, and seasonal for recreational swimming. The Training Tank is located next to Sunset Cinema at Bldg. 1508.

WEST GYM AND FITNESS CENTER

The West Gym and Fitness Center offer free infrared body-fat testing, and a free trainer to help personalize exercise programs. Shape up on cardiovascular equipment; take a martial arts class or a fitness class.  After working out, relax in the sauna and steam room. The gym checks
out a variety of athletic equipment for use inside or outside.  Sign up for Aerobics classes or Healthy Lifestyle classes by calling the Aerobics Coordinator at 760-830-4131.  The West Gym and Fitness Center is on the corner of Brown and Sixth Streets in Bldg. 1518. YOUTH SPORTS PROGRAM

The Youth Sports Program offers young people a great chance to participate in organized sports, cheer, dance, and many other programs. The Youth Sports office is in Bldg. 1004. Call (760) 830-8421/3910.

MARINE AND FAMILY SERVICES

CHILDREN, YOUTH AND TEEN PROGRAM

Children, Youth and Teen Programs consist of two Child Development Centers (Bright Beginnings and New Horizons), Family Childcare, Supplemental Programs and Services, and School Age Care Youth and Teen Oasis Center.

The Bright Beginnings Child Development Center is in Bldg. 693, on Del Valle Road across from the Commissary. Bright Beginnings offers full-time care and hourly care to children 6 weeks old to 3 years old and can safely accommodate up to 110 children. The Center is open Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with an extended hours option of 5:15 a.m. to 6 p.m.  For more information regarding this facility

New Horizons Child Development Center in Bldg. 694 on Del Valle Road across from the Commissary accepts 3 and 4 year old full-time children
and also provides care for school-age children in Kindergarten. There is a part-day and full-day Enrichment Program for 3 and 4-year-old children Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Hourly care is provided for these age groups. Reservations should be made up to two weeks in advance. For more information regarding this facility call (760) 830-3227 ext. 222.

School-Age Care is in Bldg. 692 for children in 1st through 6th grades. Children enrolled attend Condor Elementary or 29 Palms Elementary. For more information call (760) 830-3227 ext. 273.

Supplemental Programs and Services are also provided for parent participation in programs such as Fellowship, LINKS, Chapel service, etc. Care may also be arranged for special group functions such as Marine Corps Birthday Balls, Navy Balls, Holiday Parties, etc.

The Family Child Care homes office is located in Bldg. 694. The FCC programs provide a wide range of care for children, ages newborn through 18 years old (still enrolled in school). The FCC certifies homes in the different housing areas on base to include 801 housing. The office can be reached at (760) 830-3227 ext. 232 and hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All programs are developed with a variety of scheduled activities provided by the well-trained staff. As a member of the USDA food program, the children are served nutritious meals and snacks at no extra charge to the parent. All parents interested in any of the programs should contact the Resource & Referral Specialist at (760) 830-3227 ext. 230. Information about all programs as well as those offered in the Morongo Basin can be received through this office.

TEEN PROGRAM

The MCCS Teen Program gives Combat Center teens a place to enjoy arcade games, music, TV and just hang out. The Teen Program is for authorized MCCS patrons between 13 and 18 years of age (still in school). The Teen Program meets at the Youth Activity Center, Bldg. 692.

YOUTH AND TEEN RECREATION

MCCS Youth and Teen Recreation gives children, ages 6 through 12, something to do on Saturdays. This program is also available for special programs. COUNSELING SERVICES

This program provides professional counseling assistance to both married and single Marines and family members for many issues, including
stress management, anger management, domestic abuse, marital distress, post traumatic stress syndrome, grief and loss, and drug and alcohol abuse. With a highly skilled staff of supportive counselors and victim advocates, the program assists the military community in keeping families healthy and keeping military members mission ready. DRUG DEMAND REDUCTION PROGRAM

DDR provides proactive information for the prevention of substance abuse aimed at increasing substance abuse awareness for military personnel, family members, civilians and the surrounding community. The DDR outreach program works to mobilize and pool the substance abuse prevention resources of the base and surrounding community to facilitate a united front against illegal drugs with the goal of creating a drug-free community. Every year prevention education reaches out to thousands of elementary and middle-school children by providing substance abuse education. Call (760) 830-7501.

PREVENTION AND EDUCATION

The mission of the Prevention and Education Program is to provide comprehensive educational classes and programs for active duty service members and their families. It also provides guidance to commands regarding preventive measures on spouse and child abuse, substance abuse, sexual assault and suicide. Call (760) 830-4950.

NEW PARENT SUPPORT PROGRAM

A team of nurses and social workers provide support services to military families who are expecting a child or have a child under 6. Services
include information and referrals, parenting classes, monthly infant classes for moms and dads, weekly stroller walks, home visits and social activities. Call for a schedule of classes and activities or to schedule a home visit. Services are provided at your request and convenience.

LIFELONG LEARNING

The Education Center is located in Bldg. 1524 on Seventh Street. The Education Center has qualified career counselors who provide counseling to service members, family members and civilians. It is a DANTES testing site and offers high school equivalency tests, tests for college credit, undergraduate admissions tests, graduate admissions tests, certification exams and interest inventories. CAREER RESOURCE OFFICE

The CRO offers interactive learning in an array of data processing, typing, word processing, and skills assessment in CD-ROM and video formats. In addition, CRO offers a monthly Federal Resume Writing Class, self-improvement videos, Transition Workshops, employment assistance, free e-mail, Internet and the “Profiler.” The Profiler is a carefully selected individualized enrollment where up to 1,000 jobs per week are sent directly to your e-mail account and a friendly staff to get your career launched in the right direction. CRO also offers free Microsoft Office User Specialist Certification to assist spouses in developing information technology skills for the work place. Located in Bldg. 1438,

TRANSITION AND FAMILY MEMBER EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE

The Career Resource Office within Lifelong Learning provides transition assistance to separating and retiring service members and
their families. Assistance is provided through multiple workshops, presentations, and automated information systems managed by the CRO,
and through cooperation with federal, state and local agencies both on and off the Combat Center. For more information or class schedules,

MILITARY ACADEMIC SKILLS PROGRAM

MASP is an on-duty basic skills program. Classes are conducted over the Marine Corps’ Satellite Education Network. Two regionally accredited, degree-granting schools are on MCAGCC:

The schools are in Bldg.1526. They are members of the Service members Opportunity Colleges and guarantee course transfers from other
SOC schools back to the contracting school. SOC schools accept CLEP, RCEP and DANTES tests and award credit based on the evaluation
of military training. They facilitate degree completions through SOCMAR and SOCNAV agreements. Courses are offered at the associate, bachelor and graduate levels. Classes are conducted in a variety of formats and times to accommodate the various work schedules of the MCAGCC community.

LIFELONG LEARNING LIBRARY

MCCS’ Lifelong Learning Library, Bldg. 1528, offers free computer usage, free photocopies, Internet access, audio books, a fax service and special programs for all ages. Check out titles from the USMC Professional Reading Book List. Call (760) 830-6875.

PERSONAL READINESS & COMMUNITY
SUPPORT BRANCH

The Personal Readiness & Community Support Branch is a focal point for timely information, assistance and professional service to both active
duty and retired military families. Under PR&CSB you’ll find: Information and Referral, Relocation Assistance, Retired Activities, Exceptional Family Member Program, Family Enrichment, and Financial Management Program. They are located in the Village Center, Bldg. 1551. The PR&CSB has a team of skilled and trained staff to assist in dealing with life situations. PR&CSB is open Mondays through Fridays. EXCEPTIONAL FAMILY MEMBER PROGRAM

EFMP ensures that Marines with family members who have special medical, educational, or mental health needs are assigned to locations where
the essential services are available. The EFMP office provides case management, program education, resources and referrals, and advocacy for exceptional family members. Call (760) 830-7740.

PERSONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM

The Financial Management Program assists in the implementation of comprehensive personal financial management education, training, and financial counseling programs. These programs emphasize personal financial responsibility and accountability through the basic principles and practices of sound money management, specialized counseling, and consumer education. The program is designed as a working tool, giving assistance to the unit commanders and Marines by providing necessary education and training to the service members stationed aboard the Combat Center. This program is a starting point for service members and their families to acquire financial management skills and consumer knowledge.

Educational classes are available, either as a one-on-one educational session or as unit Professional Military Education: Banking, Basic Budgeting, Car Buying, Checkbook Management, Insurance, Consumer Rights, Marriage Preparations, Divorce, Transition, Retirement,
Pre-Deployment Preparations, Tackling Debt, Credit, Savings, Investments, and much more.

The Financial Management Program helps to provide the tools necessary to receive the maximum benefits from the military paycheck and reduce the worry and frustration over the continual changes in the military life-style. INFORMATION AND REFERRAL

IR is the gateway to information. Its purpose is to provide assessment of customer needs, informational presentations on the services and capabilities of the PR&CS, and information and referral to established federal, state, and local agencies whose programs are available to assist service members and families. Our courteous staff will answer your questions and direct you to appropriate resources both on and off base. IR maintains current flyers and brochures about local agencies and programs, including a pre-marriage package containing a helpful checklist and other important information. The IR staff is available for multi-media briefs tailored to a unit or group’s needs. Located in Bldg. 1551 (The Village Center), call (760) 830-6344 for assistance Monday through Friday. RELOCATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (RAP)

The Relocation Assistance Program assists service members and their families with making a smooth inbound or outbound move. Inbound? Experienced staff can provide Welcome Aboard packages prior to your arrival here in 29 Palms. These packages can be tailored to meet your needs by including information on local schools, phone books, base and local activities. After your arrival, hospitality kits containing dishes and pots and pans are available for free checkout while awaiting your shipment. Outbound? During an individual appointment your entitlements will be explained, an AAA Trip Tix can be generated for your PCS move, a Welcome Aboard Package can be requested from your next duty station, and a Standard Information Topic Exchange manual about the base will be provided. RETIRED ACTIVITIES OFFICE

The Retired Activities Office is staffed by volunteer retirees and provides information and referral services to the military retiree community of the local region with specific emphasis on the issues of retirees. Call (760) 830-7550.

KEY VOLUNTEER NETWORK

The KVN serves as a communications link between the unit and its families. Training is required to become a Key Volunteer, but taking the training does not obligate you to become a volunteer. If you have attended Key Volunteer Training at another installation in the last three years, you only need to attend the Resources Session for MCAGCC. LIFESTYLE, INSIGHTS, NETWORKING, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

If you are a new military spouse, LINKS has answers to all of your questions about military life. LINKS is a spouse-mentor program that helps spouses adjust to life in the military. In addition to valuable workshops, the Combat Center boasts a computer hub network that connects the military community with on-site help from a host of proactive and preventative programs. SPOUSES’ LEARNING SERIES

VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

The Volunteer Programs Office assists individuals in locating available positions among the many organizations on MCAGCC that use volunteers. It also aids in referring individuals interested in volunteering their time in the local community to the proper agencies. The program’s function is to involve spouses, retirees, active duty military members and others as volunteers in the many programs aboard the Combat Center. Information and referrals regarding the many volunteer opportunities available are provided with an emphasis on how volunteering helps the active duty service member’s family to become a part of their new community, as well as helps them to learn or maintain job skills while attempting to secure a paid position. Additionally, the program strengthens an organization’s work force and provides services to an organization’s clients in a more effective and efficient manner by creating a pool of talented volunteers. ASYMCA

The Twentynine Palms Armed Services YMCA Family Center provides low cost parent/child interactive programs for children 6 months to 5 years as well as services to active duty military personnel. Programs include Playtime with Baby, Tiny Tots, and KinderTyme/Ready. Community Outreach programs include Fitness & Fun, Operation Hero, & Kids Care Club.  Free Bread offered every Friday during normal business hours.

The ASYMCA is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is located in Bldg. 192, across from the Marine Palms Exchange. Stop by the ASYMCA for a tour and a monthly calendar of events. For more information, call (760) 830-7481.  Volunteers are always needed and welcome!

Services include the ASYMCA Thrift Store located in Bldg. 193 and is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the first and third Saturday of every month and annual special events throughout the year.  Uniform items free for active duty military.

AMERICAN RED CROSS

The American Red Cross, Bldg. 1551 (The Village Center), provides a large network of services including emergency communications between service members and their families, access to financial assistance for emergency leave and basic maintenance and referral services.

An active volunteer program provides staff to the Combat Center’s Naval hospital and dental clinic, the Red Cross office and other areas upon request. They also provide a meaningful summer youth program placing youth in a variety of locations. The MCAGCC Red Cross station is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., or call (760) 830-6685. CHAPLAINS RELIGIOUS ENRICHMENT
DEVELOPMENT OPERATION (CREDO)

CREDO provides marriage enrichment retreats, personal growth retreats, spiritual growth retreats, unit team building retreats and workshops. A free retreat weekend for Marines, Sailors, retirees, Reservists and their family members is available. For more information, call (760) 830-4989.

NAVY AND MARINE CORPS RELIEF SOCIETY

A non-profit charitable organization designed to provide emergency financial, educational and other assistance to members of military services, eligible family members, and survivors when in need.  Their office is located in the Village Center, Bldg. 1551, for information call (760) 830-6323.

PREVENTION AND RELATIONSHIP
ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM

The PREP teaches married or engaged couples communication skills and ground rules for handling conflict and promoting intimacy. The program is conducted in a three-day workshop format with free childcare provided for children under five.
