MWR operates a beautiful and challenging 18-hole golf course. Hours of operation change with the season. The newly completed pro shop is well equipped a nice selection of golfing apparel and equipment, a snack bar, satellite TV and full service lounge. Electric carts and pull carts are also available. The Center’s 22,000 square foot gymnasium is located in Bldg. 361. The Gym has a free weight room, physical fitness room complete with circuit training machines, six basketball goals and much more. There are also steam rooms and saunas in both the men’s and women’s locker rooms.
Various cardiovascular exercise machines enhance a complete physical fitness program. Outdoor volleyball courts are available on the west-side of the Gym. The indoor basketball court is a rubber synthetic sport floor, providing an outstanding surface for volleyball, badminton, and aerobic exercising. A variety of aerobic and other classes are offered for all ages. For more information call 871-2668.
The Community Pool is located in Shields Park, across from the RV Park. The Community Pool is open during the normal swimming season of May through September. Fitness and lap swimming is available during certain times and is free. Authorized patrons pay a nominal fee to enjoy relief from the hot Mississippi summers. Qualified lifeguards are on duty. The Center has two separate indoor
racquetball courts located near the Gymnasium. Courts are available by reservation Monday through Sunday. Challenge court (the winner continues to play all challengers) is available from 1100 to 1300, Monday – Friday. For reservations call 871-2668 or stop by the Gym.
Stinger’s Recreation Center is ideal for our young active duty members, ages 18 to 25. Numerous video games, as well as pool and ping-pong tables are available. Computers with internet access are available for use. The Recreation Center is also home to the LIBERTY Program. Our energetic Coordinator provides a fun and varied schedule of events and trips that will appeal to our young active duty members. For more information, call 871-3153.
Located in Bldg. 397 is the Auto Skills and Outdoor Recreation Center. It provides 25 general repair stalls and two hydraulic lifts. Trained tool room attendants and an automotive instructor are there to assist you. Machine shop services include tire machine, wheel balancer, and brake lathe. A RV and vehicle storage lot with preventive maintenance checks performed while your vehicle is in storage is also available. Located adjacent to the Navy Lodge, in Building 335. An excellent youth program which includes sports, field trips, daily programs, dances, lock-ins, parties and social functions for youth ages 5-18 and enrolled in school. A Youth Sports field is open for various sports leagues for children 3-18 years of age.
The Youth Center oversees the School-Age Care Program Before and After-School programs are offered to children, along with special holiday and summer camps. For more information please call 871-2251.
Shields Park and CBC Lake areas are available on a reservation basis to personnel of the Center and for family and group parties, picnics and other outdoor recreation events. Groups wishing to use the pavilions and equipment must make a reservation well in advance through the Outdoor Recreation Office at 871-2696.
Located in Shields Park, this 44-site RV campground has full hook-ups, a free 24-hour dump station, and shower and laundry facilities on site. For more information, call 871-5435.
Located inside Stinger’s Recreation Center, Bldg. 342. ITT provides information concerning MWR activities, local and regional theme parks and attractions and ticket sales. An authorized Ticketmaster location service is available for concerts, special events and sporting events. Airline ticket reservation service is also available. Check out ITT for your next cruise. Department of the Defense civilian employees are authorized to use all MWR facilities and programs with the exception of the intramural sports program.
