Medical and Dental Services
Medical care at West Point, available since the Revolutionary War era, continues today as an integral part of the installation. The Medical Department Activity provides health care for more than 29,000 people, including cadets, active-duty personnel and their family members and retirees. It also provides occupational health care for government employees at West Point and emergency services to tourists and other civilians here. Services range from monitoring air quality to intensive care. MEDDAC provides this care promptly, efficiently, courteously and competently.
KACH
Keller Army Community Hospital is a licensed 33-bed facility incorporating some of the most modern and innovative hospital-design features. This includes a medical-surgical unit, an obstetric unit, an intensive-care unit and an ambulatory surgical unit in addition to numerous outpatient clinics and supporting activities.
The Appointment Center books appointments for all primary and most specialty services available at KACH.
Primary care is available to beneficiaries enrolled in TRICARE Prime and assigned to a primary care manager (PCM). The PCM directs all health care via the referral and authorization process.
While the physicians and staff of KACH can care for most needs, they must refer those requiring highly specialized care beyond their capabilities. Patients are sent to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., or to TRICARE network or TRICARE-authorized hospitals in the New York metropolitan area.
The hospital also operates an Emergency Room to provide for care and treatment of urgent or emergency medical problems. The ER operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and its personnel see more than 12,000 patients annually. Anyone with emergencies, particularly those needing an ambulance, should call 911.
PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
The Preventive Medicine service is in Bldg. 606. It provides occupational medical care to West Point civilian employees; conducts home visits; monitors the safety of air, water and the environment; provides health risk appraisal screening and sponsors classes on topics as diverse as smoking cessation and HIV infection (Phone: 938-5836).
MOLOGNE
Mologne Cadet Health Center is also in Bldg. 606. It is a complete medical clinic providing outpatient care for roughly 100 cadets a day. Physicians at MCHC admit and care for patients at KACH and refer cadets for specialist evaluation in other clinics or to the TRICARE network of civilian providers when needed.
DENTAL SERVICES
SAUNDERS Dental Clinic
Saunders Dental Clinic in Bldg. 606 and the Oral Surgery Clinic at KACH provide dental care for the Corps of Cadets and all eligible military personnel assigned to West Point. Routine care is provided primarily by appointment. Call 938-3121/2505 for more information or to make an appointment.
Routine care for family members and retirees is not available at the dental clinic. Active duty sponsors are encouraged to enroll their family members in the TRICARE Family Member Dental Program. The TRICARE Retiree Dental Plan is available for Retirees and their family members. TRICARE dental information can be obtained from the Health Benefits Adviser at KACH.
SHARP INFORMATION
West Point’s Sexual Harassment and Assault Response and Prevention Team provides guidance, assistance and advocacy services to community members.
For more information regarding sexual assault, cadets may call their Sexual Assault Response Coordinator at 938-5966 or (845) 401-3476. The Cadet Sexual Assault Support Helpline/Cadet Personal Development 24/7 number is (845) 591-7215. Soldiers or civilians needing to speak to the Installation SARC may call 938-3369.
Cadets may call the U.S. Corps of Cadets Equal Opportunity Advisor at 938-8456 regarding sexual harassment (SH) matters. Military may call the West Point EO Military Office at 938-7082 and civilians may call the Equal Employment Office at 938-3052 for SH matters.
PET CARE - VETERINARIAN SERVICES
Veterinary Services is on Hodges Place, near Buffalo Soldier Pavilion. It inspects food entering the Commissary and the cadet mess and monitors diseases in wild animals and pets on the installation to prevent epidemics or transmission to humans. Operating from the Johnson Veterinary Treatment Facility, Veterinary Services also provides vaccinations, microchips, health certificates and limited sick-call appointments for privately owned pets. The facility also houses and cares for the Army mules. Call 938-3817 for appointments or more information.
