Welcome Aboard

Welcome to Naval Air Station Lemoore, the Navy’s newest, largest, and only west coast Master Jet Base. As home for all Navy F/A-18 Strike Fighter Squadrons on the west coast, we are committed to supporting the Strike Fighter Wing, U.S. Pacific Fleet, in its mission to train, man and equip our Strike Fighter Squadrons.
Nearly every organization on base either directly or indirectly supports the ability of the base’s homeported Strike Fighter Squadrons to deploy aboard U.S. Pacific Fleet’s aircraft carriers which project America’s interests over more than half the Earth’s surface, from the west coast of the United States to the east coast of Africa.
We at the Naval Air Station take pride in providing outstanding service to all newcomers who are helping us perform this mission. We provide what we believe is the best in housing, community support programs, and city services for our Sailors, Marines, civilian employees and their families.
The Naval Air Station and Strike Fighter Wing provide a strong team, committed to delivering offensive combat power to Combat Commanders anywhere in the world. Welcome to that team!

NAS Lemoore, Past and Present

In 1954, the Navy searched the central California area for land to build a master jet air station – one with congestion-free air space. Lemoore was chosen because of its central location, good weather for flying, relatively inexpensive land and nearby accommodations.
The air station was commissioned on July 8, 1961 with Capt. Howard M. Avery, newly appointed commanding officer, presiding over the opening ceremonies. More than one hundred million dollars was invested to bring the station to operational status.
In July 1998, NAS Lemoore was selected as the west coast site for the Navy’s newest strike fighter aircraft, the F/A-18E/F, and in November 1999, the first Super Hornets arrived. This action brought approximately 92 additional aircraft, 1,850 additional active duty personnel and 3,000 family members to the installation.
Now, approximately 7,200 military and 1,300 civilians work at NAS Lemoore, making it the 3rd largest industry in Kings County. In addition, it supports nearly 10,900 dependents, 12,825 retirees/dependents, 500 students, and approximately 825 reservists.
The Naval Air Station contributes more than $654 million to the regional economy, but more important, the men and women who live and work here continue to enjoy an atmosphere of mutual respect, cooperation, strong teamwork and common interest with our local communities while supporting the mightiest Navy in the world.
