Newcomers’ Information
Pre-planning is essential for newcomers moving to Naval Air Station Lemoore, whether for a permanent change of station, a temporary duty assignment, or a school tour. Two excellent sources of information for military moves are Military HOMEFRONT and Military OneSource.
Military HOMEFRONT contains resources for everyone who is relocating from one duty station to another. The web site includes a section on planning PCS moves, as well as a section with information on 350 military installations worldwide. The web address is: www.militaryhomefront.dod.mil/.
Military OneSource provides information about a wide range of subjects including relocation, child care, personal finances, and emotional support during deployments. Its web site address is: www.militaryonesource.com.
There are a number of actions which you should take as soon as you receive Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders…actions such as arranging movement of your household goods, requesting on-base family housing (if desired), arranging temporary quarters for when you house hunt, and enrolling your children in the on-base Child Development Center program (if appropriate).
Newcomers are encouraged to contact their local Personal Property office as soon as possible after receiving orders to arrange shipment of household goods. Most of this process can now be accomplished on line using either the Defense Personal Property System or Navy Smart Move System. Once arriving at Lemoore, contact the Personal Property Office by calling (559) 998-2624 to arrange delivery or storage of household goods.
All single Sailors and Marines, E-4 and below, must reside in Bachelor Quarters on base. All E-5 and above are eligible to live in the local commuting area, if desired. Military families can apply to live in on-base housing or reside in the local community. Applications for on-base housing can be submitted to the Navy Housing Referral Office as soon as orders are received. See “Housing” for details.
Temporary lodging is available for single military members, without advance reservation, at the Hornet Gateway Inns & Suites on base. However, military members with families should make advance reservations with the Navy Lodge or in the local community, when orders are received. You will be authorized up to 10 days Temporary Lodging Expenses (TLE) while house hunting.
Families awaiting personal property shipment to arrive can use the Fleet and Family Support Center’s Loan Locker while staying in temporary lodging. Items available include sleeping mats, kitchen items, high chairs, playpens, and baby cribs. People borrowing Loan Locker items will need to show military ID and orders.
Military families requiring on-base child care are also encouraged to contact the Child Development Center’s Central Waiting List Coordinator at (559) 998-4099 as soon as orders are received since the demand for on-base child care continues to grow.
All new personnel should hear from a gaining command sponsor shortly after receiving orders. If not, contact your gaining unit and ask for your sponsor’s name and phone number. Your gaining command should also provide you with a mailing address where letters can be forwarded until a permanent address can be established.
Before departing home, remember to hand carry important paperwork such as military service record, PCS orders, marriage certificates, immunization records of children, household good inventory lists, military ID cards, vehicle information, a copy of the “page 2” or proof of dependents, and copies of family medical records.
While traveling, be sure to document all travel expenses for reimbursement at NAS Lemoore.
Arrival
Located 40 miles south of Fresno, California, NAS Lemoore lies in the heart of the San Joaquin Valley—the state’s top agricultural-producing region. And yet, surrounding Lemoore are California’s playgrounds – Los Angeles, San Francisco, the Sierra Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. As a result, NAS Lemoore offers a small hometown atmosphere of rural America, yet within easy reach of some of this nation’s favorite playgrounds.
The main gate is located on Highway 198, six miles west of Highway 41 and the city of Lemoore. This gate leads to all base support functions and base housing. Six miles further west is the Operations gate where all flightline operations take place. Military buses provide transportation between the Bachelor Housing area and Operations area in the morning and afternoon hours only.
By Auto – The Naval Air Station is located on Highway 198, 19 miles east of Interstate 5 or 30 miles west of Highway 99. Both highways provide easy access to the air station.
By Plane – The closest commercial airport is located in Fresno, California. A NAS Lemoore military shuttle bus picks up military members on official orders from the Fresno airport seven days a week at noon, 5 p.m. and at midnight. Arriving Sailors and Marines should go to the Information Desk in the lobby and wait there for the shuttle. The shuttle schedule can be confirmed by calling the base billeting office at (559) 998-4609.
Reporting In
Upon arrival, all Sailors and Marines should ensure their orders are endorsed to include date and time of arrival at NAS Lemoore.

Command PASS Coordinators will then coordinate and schedule their check-in process with the Personnel Support Detachment. Sailors assigned to fleet squadrons (not under the PSD Afloat program) must report directly to their gaining commands for pay and personnel support.

Marine students will check-in with the Gateway Inns, Building 800, upon arrival to ensure that their orders are stamped with a reporting endorsement to include the date and time of their arrival at NAS Lemoore. They will then report as soon as possible to the MATSG-23 Administrative Office located in Building 730, Room 007, between 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays for in-processing.

NEWS FLASH - There is a new program called Defense Personal Property System (DP3) which is a part of a new DOD personal property program called Families First. The program was developed to improve and streamline the HHG move process for service members, and their families as well as DOD civilians.
DP3 is designed to alleviate some of the stresses inherent in Permanent Change of Station (PCS) moves by giving you, the customer, a voice on how your move is done. It will provide you with 24-hour online access to your personal property shipment throughout the entire move process.
By using DP3, you will be able to file and settle a claim directly with the Transportation Service Provider (TSP). Claims protection includes full replacement value of items lost or damaged beyond repair. Once you receive your PCS/Separation/Retirement orders, please email them to lemr_personalproperty@navy.mil. Then log on to www.move.mil to process your household good application.
If you are unable to use the DP3 program, please log on to www.smartwebmove.navsup.navy.mil to process your outgoing move.
