Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR)

The mission of NAS Corpus Christi’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) program is to provide quality varied programs of wholesome and constructive recreation/leisure activities. Eligible individuals include active duty military, reservists, retired military, DoD civilians, and dependents in each category.

Aquatics Program

NAS Corpus Christi has two swimming pools, which allow a variety of programming during the swim season. Swim lessons, lap swimming, water aerobics, swim team and pool parties are all offered. For information about any of the programs offered, please call the Aquatics Director at 961-2401, during September-May and 961-3260, during May-September. To reserve the pool for pool parties or to check on current fees please contact the Aquatics Director.

Bayside Pool is a terrific family pool, which shares a parking lot with the Bay Club. Bayside pool has an 18 ft circular slide, baby pool, which ranges in depth from 1/2 ft to 2 ft, and the main pool ranges in depth from 2 ft to 10 ft. A swim test is required before any children under the age of 10 can ride the slide. Bayside Pool is open Memorial Day to Labor Day. It’s open from noon to 7 p.m., Wednesday-Friday; from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday; and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday. It’s closed Monday and Tuesday.

Oasis Pool is a 5-lane lap pool. The pool is 25 yards long and 15 yards wide and is surrounded by trees for your comfort. A horseshoe pit and a volleyball court are also available. Whether you want to just soak up the sun and relax by the pool or take a dip after a hard day or for just getting together with friends, the Oasis Pool is one of the best places on base for outdoor fun. Oasis Pool is open April-October for lap swimming. It is open Monday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Athletics and Sports

The E-Street Gym offers Captain’s Cup sports, intramural sports, and sports equipment for issue. For information about joining a league, participating in a tournament, reserving a field or court, call 961-2401 or 961-2493. The E-Street Gym is located in Building 102, at the corner
of Lexington and E Street. It’s open Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday and holidays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The gymnasium includes a basketball/volleyball court, racquetball court, boxing room, aerobic room, and locker room with showers. Outdoor fields and courts are available for football, soccer, and basketball. There is also an outdoor track. Sports are scheduled throughout the year.

Auto Skills Center
Bldg. 1713

The Auto Skills Center is a do-it-yourself automotive repair program where you, the customer, can make repairs on your vehicle. The Center provides tools, lift and has mechanics on staff to assist with repairs or questions. Please call the shop at 961-3470 or the office at 961-2907. The Center offers the capability to provide the following services: mounting and balancing tires, air conditioning repair, Texas vehicle inspections, resurfacing rotors, coolant flush, and computer diagnostics. All Data (Computer Repair Manuals) are available.

Bowling
Bldg. 1707

Lighthouse Lanes provides the coolest place in South Texas. Located on Avenue “E” across from the BEQ, it offers 12 lanes with electronic scoring, year-round leagues, a pro shop, game room, and party pricing. Visit the Subway Sub Shop for lunch or dinner. Call 939-9539 to place an order to be picked up or eaten there. Lighthouse Lanes has the lowest prices in Corpus Christi. To find out about leagues and events, call 961-3805. Hours of operation are from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday-Thursday; from noon to 11 p.m., Friday-Saturday; and from noon to 8 p.m., Sunday.

Ceramic Shop
Bldg. 1738

Make your own creations for display, home use, craft shows, and more. All tools, including four kilns and approximately 10,000 molds, are available. Instructional classes in pouring and painting are offered. Call 961-2459 for more information.

Child Development Center
Bldg. 1782

The Child Development Program is nationally accredited by National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and helps parents meet their military obligation by providing full-time care (drop-in care is provided on a space available basis), where children are encouraged to develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially in a safe, loving environment. The Center accepts children from age six weeks to five years (if not eligible for school). The Center provides quality care with a trained and experienced staff Monday-Friday from 6:45 a.m. until 5:15 p.m. For further information please call 961-1165.

Child Development Home Program

Child Development Home Program is also available for families who need an alternative child care program or cannot be facilitated in the CDC. Anyone interested in caring for children in their own homes may apply to become a CDH provider. Training includes CPR, first aid, record keeping, and training in child development. Call the Child Development Home Program at 961-1166 for more information about the program.

Civilian Recreation
Bldg. 39

All MWR facilities and programs are available to DOD civilian employees and their dependents. By virtue of their employment on board NAS Corpus Christi, DOD employees assigned to NASCC or its tenant commands are members of the Civilian Morale, Welfare and Recreation activity. This program is designed to provide a station-wide recreation and welfare program for those civilian employees attached to Corpus Christi.

Funds for this program are derived from the profits of the vending machines located in the NASCC civilian workspaces. These funds support a variety of activities such as the athletic events, group activities, social events and crafts activities.

An Advisory Council, appointed by the Commanding Officer, represents the civilian employees. The Coordinator and the Advisory Council
plan many activities primarily for the civilians and their dependents but also in conjunction with military recreation activities and base-wide
special events.

To determine who your representative is and how he/she can be reached, call the NASCC Civilian Recreation Coordinator at 961-2655. Your comments, questions and suggestions are always welcomed.

Fitness Express/Fitness Center

The fitness center offers an extensive array of equipment and classes to give you a fantastic workout. Strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance and body composition can be improved with the help of our friendly, professional staff. Services included at our facility are: fitness assessments, personal training, and group class instruction.

Group class instruction - Yoga, Pilates, Group cycling/step, Floor aerobics, etc.

Weight training equipment - Free weights, plate loaded and variable weight equipment

Cardiovascular equipment - Treadmills, Stationary Bikes, Stairs Climbers, Step Mills, Elliptical Orbiters, Rowers, Ski Machine

Cardio-theatre - Wide selection of television stations and radio stations

Locker room - Showers, steam room, sauna, and whirlpool

Group exercise formats are changing constantly to reflect the interests of our members. For an updated monthly schedule, please call us at 961-3164 or 961-1179.Hours of operation are from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday-Friday; from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday; and from noon to 6 p.m., Sunday and holidays.

Gulf Winds Golf Course
Bldg. 1272

The course is a challenging 6,410 yard (from the tips) 18 hole, par 71 course located just inside the South Gate of the installation. The facility includes a driving range, practice chipping and putting greens, and a pro-shop offering a full line of golf accessories and club repair services. The pro-shop can special order golf equipment at substantial savings over local merchants. The clubhouse includes ladies and men’s locker rooms with showers. Locker rental is on space available basis.

Annual Match and Medal Play Championships, as well as monthly GWGA tournaments are held and are open to all eligible patrons. Just call the pro-shop for information on how to arrange a golf tournament for your command or organization. The Gulf Winds Snack Bar is open for breakfast and lunch every day of the week. Call them at 961-3360 to see what the daily lunch special is, or to order by phone.

Information, Tickets, and Tours (ITT)
Bldg 39, west-side entrance

The ITT Office serves as your one-stop location for all recreational and travel needs. Tickets can be purchased for area theme parks, concerts, special events and attractions. ITT can also help you with all your travel planning. Come in today to plan your perfect vacation. Call 961-3961 to find out if tickets are available for your favorite event. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday-Friday.

Liberty Center
Bldg. 1281

The Liberty Center is located on Ocean Blvd in the Breezeway Inn Barracks. The Liberty Center is designed to provide an active program that service primarily for active duty personnel. The Center is open to Active Duty, Reservists, and National Guard personnel that are 18 years of age and over. An on-going program of organized recreational activities is provided throughout the year that targets the interest of the Single Active
Duty Member.

The Liberty Center provides a variety of activities free of charge. Such activities include: pool tables, wide screen TV’s, X-Box Elite 360, Play Station 3’s, Wii Game system, assorted board games, foosball, table tennis, snack machines, internet availability, and free coffee. An outside pavilion comes equipped with one covered area, picnic tables, and BBQ pit.

The Liberty Center is open daily from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. On Holidays the operating are from noon to 8 p.m. For additional information, please

Liberty Program
Bldg. 1281

The Liberty Program (Life is Better Everywhere Recreation Takes You) is dedicated to developing and improving social skills and to meeting the leisure needs of single Sailors and geographical bachelors between the ages of 18 and 25. The program includes events, services, and activities designed to enhance social skills and promote programs that teach positive use of free time. The program is designed for single Sailors; however, it is not limited to those attached to NASCC.

The Liberty Program hosts numerous events throughout the year at the lowest cost possible, both in and out of state. An off-base trip that the Liberty program hosts includes transportation and accommodations, like for tubing trips to the Guadalupe River. The Liberty Program provides other numerous events such as camping, snow skiing, pool parties, paintball competition, sporting events, and holiday parties.

Library
Bldg. 5

“Books and More” provides materials for life-long learning and leisure time reading. More than 40,000 books are available as well as newspapers, periodicals, audio books, and reference material. Internet and photocopy services are also available. Operational hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. A Summer Reading Club is provided to encourage children to work on their reading skills. Call the library at 961-3574, for more information about materials and services offered.

NAF Personnel/Payroll
Bldg. 39

Applications for employment at Combined Bachelors Quarters and MWR are accepted Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Hiring for full-time and flex positions. (Off duty military may be employed, but require an approved chit from the department head).

- Vacancy announcements are published on the bulletin board in Building 39.

- Numerous positions have continuous vacancy openings, so you may apply any time.

Outdoor Recreation/Adventure Center (ORAC) Marina
Bldg. 1757

The Outdoor Recreation/Adventure Center provides one-stop shopping for the outdoor enthusiast ... camping and fishing equipment
rentals, fishing, windsurfing and sailboat rentals, charter boat fishing, scuba classes, adventure trips and activities ... and the latest outdoor recreation information. ORAC also organizes fishing contests, regattas, and safe boating courses. Live and dead bait is available from its bait concession stand.

Other services provided by ORAC include:

Shields Park Campground & RV Park - Included are RV campsites with picnic tables, water, electric and sewer. Tent sites include picnic tables, water, and a group shelter. Laundry facilities and showers are available. To reserve a camping site, call the Marina at 961-1293.

Picnic Pavilion, Bldg. 1765, Shields Park - Equipped with picnic tables, BBQ pits, and volleyball, the pavilion can be reserved by calling 961-1293

Boat Storage - Included are boat slips with water and electricity, boat sheds with electricity, and a storage compound.
Fishing Pier - Located at Shields Park, the fishing pier is lighted and has fish cleaning stations.

Sunfish Beach - Located on Corpus Christi Bay north of the Bay Club, Sunfish Beach is available for station-wide day use and private beach parties (pavilions). Please call ORAC at 961-1293/94/95 for more information.

Lessons - ORAC offers instructional courses in: Windsurfing, Mate ‘A’ Sailing, Skipper ‘B’ Sailing, and motor boat qualification

Volunteer Programs - The Outdoor Recreation/Adventure Connection offers a Volunteer Instructor Program (VIP) aimed at teaching recreation skills to persons interested in increasing their knowledge about the great outdoors! If you are interested in passing your skills along to others and being compensated for your time, please call ORAC at 961-1293/94/95. A list of recreational activities is available at the Marina.

Private Organizations
Bldg. 39

The Private Organization Coordinator’s Office is located in Building 39. All private organizations operating on board NAS Corpus Christi are required to register with the Private Organization Coordinator to be recognized as an authorized Private Organization in good standing on board NAS Corpus Christi. Each Private Organization must submit bylaws and a complete roster with the names of all current officers and request authorization to function on base from the Commanding Officer, via the MWR Department and NAS Legal.

Private Organizations must be in compliance with DOD instruction 1000.15, NASCORPCINST1700.9C and DOD instruction 5500.7-R. Bylaws should include a copy of the insurance policy for the organization as required in the above mentioned instructions. A limited number of fundraisers will be permitted per organization per year. For more information, call the NASCC Private Organization Coordinator at 961-2655. Your questions, comments and suggestions are always welcomed.

Used Vehicle Lot

Patrons wanting to sell their personally owned vehicles, trailers, campers, or boats may place them on the MWR Used Vehicle Lot located on Lexington Blvd., next to the Armed Forces Reserve Center. Patrons must come by the Administrative Office in Bldg. 39 to fill out forms prior to placing the vehicle in the lot. A fee of $20 per month will be assessed for each item parked in the lot. Forms must be updated on a monthly basis and are required on vehicles at all times. Questions may be directed to MWR by calling 961-3961.

Veterinary Treatment Facility
Bldg. H-110

Animal care for active duty personnel, dependents and retired military personnel is provided at the Corpus Christi Veterinary Treatment Facility
by one Veterinary Corps Officer, one Veterinary Corps Animal Care Specialist, and one civilian animal care assistant. They also provide support to NS Ingleside and NAS Kingsville. While care for privately owned animals is very important, it is subject to availability and mission requirements. Animal care provided at the Corpus Christi Veterinary Treatment Facility is not available for civilians, reservists that are not on active duty, or reservist retired.

The staff performs preventive care and minor sick call for your pets; including annual vaccines for dogs and cats, vaccinations for puppies and kittens, laboratory services and overseas health certificates. Heartworm prevention, flea and tick preventatives, dental supplies and nutritional supplements are sold as well. No products will be dispensed without a medical exam performed at the Corpus Christi VTF within 12 months.

The Veterinary Office is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to noon, and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., pets are seen by appointment only. The Veterinary Office is also open one Saturday during each month from 9 am until noon. For appointments or any other information, call 961-3952.

Wings Auditorium

A 1,556 seat auditorium may be reserved for official training, safety stand down, and many other official functions by calling 961-2267.

Youth Program
Bldg 1756

Youth Activities is affiliated with the Boys & Girls Club of America and 4-H Club. Its mission is to enable all young people to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. The Youth Program offers a wide variety of programs and activities for ages 5-18.

The facility is equipped with a fully functional gym, game room, teen center, and playgrounds. The game room includes air hockey, big screen TV’s, pool tables, foosball, and Video Games. For more information, please call 961-2355.

School Age Care - The Youth Program also offers before school, after school, full day camps, and summer camps throughout the year. Fees for these programs are determined by total family income. Programs are offered for ages 5-13. School Age Care provides snacks, arts and crafts, games and sports, field trips, swimming, and volunteer programs.

Youth Sports Program - Sports league programs are offered to ages 4-18 with a nominal registration fee. Leagues include soccer (Fall), basketball (Winter), and T-Ball/Coach Pitch (Spring).
