Access to Care

The clinic provides primary care on a Monday through Friday, duty day basis through an open – access appointment system, providing care the day it is needed without need for future appointments except for follow-up and some prevention visits. For in-house specialty and community referrals, the 2d Medical Group operates in accordance with TRICARE access standards; 24 hours for urgent care, seven days for routine care and 30 days for wellness and specialty appointments.

Medical Appointments

Centralized appointing is available for primary care at 456-6555 with normal appointment desk hours 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday on duty days. Active Duty only may call between 7:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. for appointments. Online appointing is available and encouraged. Routine dental appointments are made through each active-duty member’s orderly room or by contacting the clinic at 456-4018. Ambulance Services/Care After Duty Hours

Emergency service at the 2d Medical Group is handled through the local medical center emergency rooms in Shreveport and Bossier City. Ambulance service is available for on-base members through the 911 call system or by directly contacting ambulances services at 456-6166. Urgent medical needs and PRP referrals requiring a provider authorization are handled through our nurse advice line at 456-6555. Additionally, when beneficiaries are out of town and need medical care they can get advice and authorizations through the TRICARE referral line at 1-800-406-2832, noted on their TRICARE information card.

Dental Sick Call

Sick call treatment for dental emergencies can be obtained by calling the Dental Clinic from 7:00-7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday, duty days at 456-4018. True emergencies involving pain, bleeding or swelling should call 456-4018 anytime during business hours. After hours, if dental advice is needed, contact the ambulance service at 456-6163.

Health Care Referrals

The local medical community has a full array of health care services, and the 2d Medical Group utilizes civilian medical facilities for specialty care referrals when the service is not available in-house. TRICARE Prime enrollees have their referral needs managed by the TRICARE Service Center, located in the Barksdale Clinic. Active duty referral needs are managed by the Managed Care Office, located in the same area as the TRICARE Service Center. The phone number is 456-6572. After hours, the TRICARE beneficiary phone number is 1-800-406-2832.

Health and Wellness Center

The HAWC is dedicated to supporting the Air Force mission of all Active Duty members being physically fit. The HAWC staff provides awareness, prevention and intervention programs to improve member’s health and fitness so as to increase the Air Force’s readiness and productivity. The programs are designed to introduce and assist in the maintenance of physical fitness, healthy nutrition, health risk management, and tobacco cessation. The Health and Wellness Center also promotes healthier lifestyles for Barksdale’s Reserve, dependents, retirees and civilian employees.
