The Barksdale Club is located just inside the Bossier North Gate and provides a comfortable, casual dining to all ranks. Excellently staffed, the club features delicious cuisine, changing entertainment schedules and a full-line catering service. A large lunch buffet is served Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Evening dining is available Friday and Saturday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dress is casual and reservations are usually welcome. The officers’ casual lounge is located in Hangar 2, directly behind the main club. It is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 4 pm. The Bayou lounge is open Friday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. in the main club. The enlisted lounge (Stripes) is located adjacent to the west swimming pool and the golf course. Bingo is also held at Stripes each Tuesday in the ballroom and features several large cash jackpots. A bingo buffet is served at 5:30 p.m. and play begins at 6:30 p.m. The club also provides full-service catering for member’s special functions. Numerous party rooms are available to accommodate your smallest gatherings to groups of over 1000.

The base library serves all active duty personnel and their dependents, retirees, reserve personnel, military and civilian personnel on TDY, as well as civil service and NAF employees on base. Valid identification must be presented to register for a library card. Materials in the library’s collection include current best sellers (fiction and nonfiction), magazines, newspapers, audiovisual materials (VHS, tapes, DVDs, CDs, books on tape/books on CD, language tapes/CDs) for adults and children, financial reference sources, CLEP/DANTES study guides, test materials and educational/career information. There are 18 computers available with internet access and printing capability. In addition on Microsoft Office Suite productivity software, these computers can access multiple databases for research. The library also has a parent’s computer for internet use located next to the children’s computer which is loaded with educational programs for your children. The young adult zone provides materials for middle and high school students, as well as access to the internet via a laptop computer. Recurring programs include children’s story time on the second and fourth Friday of each month (September through August), a summer reading program for children and an adult reading program each winter. The Barksdale Fitness and Sports Center features 48,000 square feet of room for the entire Barksdale community. It promotes the Air Force policy of sports and recreation for all by encouraging base people to participate in organized, competitive activities. The Fitness and Sports Center is designed to stimulate, develop and maintain the highest possible mental and physical conditioning for participants. The center is located conveniently near the dormitories and offers plenty of opportunities for a workout.
The center is open Mondays to Fridays 5 a.m. to midnight; Saturdays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays, Family Days and holidays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Indoor facilities include two basketball courts, a running track, a volleyball court, four racquetball courts, a combined strength-conditioning and free weight room, aerobic exercise room, sauna, male and female locker rooms, checkout area, stationary stair machines, rowing machines, treadmills and stationary bikes. Outdoor areas include two softball fields, a football field, a jogging course, a quarter-mile track, and two tennis courts.
In addition to regularly scheduled intramurals in basketball, racquetball, volleyball, softball, golf, bowling, soccer and flag football, the Fitness and Sports Center also offers recreational programs, tournaments, and self-directed sports programs. The Barksdale Golf Course is located along Barksdale Boulevard. This 18-hole course will challenge even the experts and provide an exciting day of golf for all. The clubhouse has a professionally equipped pro shop, snack bar, meeting room and locker rooms for men and women. A self-service driving range, lessons, pull and electric golf carts are available on a year-round basis. Add an outstanding tournament schedule, dedicated staff and first-class customer service and it is readily apparent why Barksdale is so proud of its course. Barksdale’s 16-lane bowling center features automatic scoring, new seating and an elevated pit area. Cafe 300 Snack Bar has been newly renovated and features daily lunch specials. There are bumper lanes for children and we offer a full-service pro shop. Bowlers can experience the ultimate in bowling, complete with Cosmic Bowling-laser lights, glowing lanes and pins, new glow in the dark carpeting and an awesome sound system. Whether you are a serious bowler or just want a night of fun and excitement, you will find it at the bowling center. Barksdale has two base swimming pools. The west pool is located next to the enlisted club, and the north pool is located behind the officers club. From May through August, each pool is open six days a week. Swim lessons are offered for all levels, infants as well as beginner through advanced. Groups may book private pool parties at the west pool. Open lap swimming is offered at the North pool each Mon/Tues/Thurs/Fri from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For pool information call 456-3389.
Located near the main exchange, the theater offers plenty of Hollywood action at reduced rates. This facility is air-conditioned, seats 500 and features surround sound. The theater’s snack stand offers drinks, popcorn and a variety of candy. Admission costs are adults $3.50 and children $1.25. Movies play Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The Army and Air Force Exchange Service operates the theater.

The office is located in the Main BX and offers a variety of tickets for local attractions, concerts, professional and collegiate events, Florida, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri and Louisiana theme parks and movie theater passes. Gifts and Getaways also maintains a large number of miscellaneous brochures on attractions ranging from Shreveport, La., New Orleans, La., Hot Springs, Ark., Orlando, Fla., Dallas and Galveston, Texas. Gifts and Getaways is also the center for leisure travel airline tickets and cruises as well as hotel and car rentals for your leisure time.
Barksdale’s Arts and Crafts Center is located on 475 Icarus Road and provides a wide range of services for the arts-minded individual. Classes offered vary from scrap booking to knitting and framing, woodworking and jewelry making. A wide spectrum of activities is available for Air Force members, civilian employees, retirees and all family members 14 years or older. A state-of-the-art engraving shop for awards, plaques and gifts is also available. A well-stocked resale store is located in the center. For more information call 456-3140.
The do-it-yourself hobbyist will find an ample supply of tools and equipment in the wood crafts center, located on the backside of the arts and crafts center building. Courses are offered at various times throughout the year and include basic woodworking, ladies woodworking, woodturning and various project classes. The facility has equipment for every woodcrafters dream. The woodcraft center has lumber, stains and finishes for sale. It is a resale outlet for custom made plaques, shadow boxes, flag cases and special order items, such as furniture and squadron signs.
The auto craft center is the perfect place to learn the basics about the complex workings of your car. Classes are offered in basic auto repairs and basic automotive. Located at 480 Icarus Road, the facility has eight stalls for auto repairs to include steam cleaning machines, three lifts and a four-bay car wash. The center also has a state inspection station and services vehicle air conditioning. Two auto mechanics are on duty from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to provide repair service by appointment. The auto craft center is open Tuesday through Saturday, except on holidays. The center has a vehicle resale lot for used cars, with 13 slots for cars and 10 slots for recreation vehicles. Barksdale’s East Reservation is a thickly wooded recreation and conservation area of nearly 18,000 acres. Both hunting and fishing are permitted on the reservation in season. Fishermen will find five lakes, 11 ponds and one bayou available to them. Bass, bream, catfish, perch and crappie abound. Boats and outdoor recreation equipment are available for checkout from the 2d Services Squadron Equipment Rental at 456-3426.
Permits are required for hunting and fishing: $25 per year for hunting, $10 per year for fishing. These permits, hunting and fishing regulations and reservation maps may be obtained from the natural resources section at 456-2231.
Located in Bldg. 4964/4965 on the corner of Twining Drive and Davis Avenue, the equipment rental center has various items for rent including travel trailers, rollaway beds, boats and motors, tents, camping supplies, log splitters and garden equipment. Equipment Rental also offers cut firewood and fried turkeys (seasonal) for sale. The center also provides professional small engine repair and sales and four-wheeler tune-ups. Equipment Rental is certified as dealer representatives for Briggs & Statton, Poulan, Husquavarna, MTD, Kohler, Tecumseh, Robin and N2 ATV, encompassing all brands currently sold at the base BXtra. As dealer representatives, repair costs associated with parts are significantly less, offering customers a considerable savings on the overall cost of repairs. Outdoor Recreation offers a multitude of programs devoted to help maintain health and strengthen the morale of military families at Barksdale. Programs include off-base adventures such as horseback riding and trout fishing trips in the mountains of Northern Arkansas, as well as base sponsored programs such as 3-D Archery Tournaments and Paintball. Outdoor Recreation also sponsors programs devoted to children, such as a monthly Hank Night where children are introduced to outdoor recreation and nature through the Outdoor Recreation mascot Hank the Hawk. Barksdale offers the use of Cullen Park, Clear Lake Park and the Witch’s Hut for gatherings and areas of relaxation. All parks are equipped with playground equipment and pavilions and are conveniently located. All of the parks offer spectacular settings in a relaxed environment. Clear Lake Park and Cullen Park offer close proximity to Clear Lake, which is open for freshwater fishing. Barksdale also operates a Fam Camp facility with 42 RV sites encompassing integrated electrical and sewage hook ups, a state of the art Visitors Center, laundry machines, updated bath facilities and extensive primitive camping sites.
