CHILD, YOUTH AND SCHOOL SERVICES
Child, Youth and School Services (CYSS) include the Child Development Center, Family Child Care, Outreach Services, School Age Center, Youth, Education and Support Services, School Support Services, Youth Sports & Fitness, Middle School/Teen Program, EDGE and HIRED!, and Soldier & Family Assistance Center Child Care Program. Children and youth participants must be registered with CYSS. Registration is free; however, additional fees are charged for sports, events, and camps.
CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER
The Child Development Center is located in Buildings 4249 and 4250 and offers all the primary childcare services for children 6 weeks through Kindergarten.
Hourly Care: The CDC hourly care program provides intermittent, short-term care for children 6 weeks to Pre-school weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Full-day Care: This program provides developmental care for children 6 weeks to Kindergarten. The hours of operation are weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Two meals and a snack are provided in the full-day rate.
Part-day Program: The before and after Kindergarten care program is available daily before and after school Monday through Friday from 5:30 to 6 p.m. A part-day pre-school for ages 3-5 years is available (3 day program) Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 9 a.m. to noon and (2 day program) Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m. to noon. A part-day 3-day toddler program for 24-35 month-old children is available Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9 a.m. to noon. A part-day, 2-day toddler program for 24-35 month-old children is available Tuesday and Thursday 9 a.m. to noon.
FAMILY CHILD CARE
On and off post in-home care is available for children 4 weeks through 5th grade. Care is provided by an adult who is certified by the FCC program. The Family Child Care staff has certified the individual providing care and inspected and approved the home before children may be accepted for care. Extended care is available evenings and weekends. OUTREACH SERVICES
Registration: Information regarding registration for all Child, Youth and School Services programs can be obtained from Parent Center Services by calling (502) 624-6703 Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is done by appointments Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Late or early appointments are available upon request on the second Thursday of every month. Walk-in appointments are available Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. All families are highly encouraged to visit Parent Central in Building 1384 in the basement to register their children as soon as they arrive on the installation. Also, military families moving to Fort Knox may have their children’s CYSS information exported from the previous installation to Fort Knox Parent Central Services.
Kids-on-Site (KOS): This program provides on-site hourly care when parents using child care services are attending the same on-post function. (KOS) will be provided in the same facility or in a building immediately adjacent to the facility where the parents are in attendance. Units and special interest groups can call the Outreach Services Office for information about arranging KOS special evening and weekend childcare. Special Openings: KOS can also plan, by request, special openings and extended hours at the Child Development Center. Individuals or unit representatives should call the KOS office at (502) 624-7413.
SCHOOL AGE CENTER (SAC)
Designed for children in grades 1st-5th, the School Age Center program includes before and after school and part-time care Monday through Friday before and after school. It is open weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Full-day care is available 5:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. during school intercessions, summer months, and school holidays. A computer lab, homework center, intercession camps, summer camps, and other special activities are an integral part of the fun-filled services provided through SAC. SAC is an affiliate member of the Boys and Girls Club of America and 4-H.
YOUTH EDUCATION AND SUPPORT SERVICES
School Support Services are designed to address the emotional needs of transitional students and their families, promote military parent’s involvement in education, develop and maintain partnerships between installation, parents, youth and schools as well as provide access and referral to resources that enhance military youth education. School of Knowledge, Inspirational, Exploration and Skills (SKIES) instructional programs (karate, gymnastics, piano, dance, music appreciation, and tutoring) are open to children 3 through 12th grade. YOUTH SPORTS AND FITNESS
Youth Sports and Fitness offers an extensive sports program for children age 3 through 12th grade. Programs include instructional and team competition in flag and tackle football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and cheerleading. Individual sports are also offered. The Youth Sports & Fitness Complex on the corner of Ninth Cavalry Regiment Ave. offers an array of sports fields with complete setup and lighting. Call (502) 624-4747.
MIDDLE SCHOOL/TEEN (MST) PROGRAM
Devers Middle School and Teen Center, Building 5543, offers open recreation activities and has a game room, gymnasium, homework center, 15-station computer lab, fitness room, multi-purpose room, and dance club. Open recreation is available for youths from middle through high school. Hours are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 2:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday 1:30 to 8 p.m., Friday 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. Additional hours for ages 13-18 are Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The Middle School/Teen programs are designed to provide youth with recreational, self-improvement, and leadership programs. Activities such as dances, tournaments, and field trips are scheduled nearly every weekend, with self-improvement and leadership programs scheduled on a regular basis. Teens can dance nightly in the Teen Xzibit, located at Devers MST Center.
Opportunities also exist for youth to participate in one of the many after school programs/clubs offered at Devers MST Center Monday through Friday. Transportation is provided from school and a USDA snack is provided to participants. Teens are strongly encouraged to express their programming ideas, concerns, and issues during the Teen Council meetings held weekly at Devers. Call (502) 624-6442.
EDGE
The EDGE Program offers out-of-school opportunities for children and youth (1st-12th grade) to experience, develop, grow, and excel by participating in cutting-edge art, fitness, life skills, and adventure activities. Art EDGE!, Fit EDGE!, Life EDGE!, and Adventure EDGE! promote learning-by-doing and focus on the development while building self-esteem, incorporating a healthy lifestyle, exploring life skills, and encouraging exposure that embraces the outdoors and nature. HIRED!
This Apprenticeship Program provides 15-18 year-old youth with meaningful, professionally managed career-exploration opportunities in Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (FMWR) operations. The HIRED! Apprenticeship Program offers valuable paid work experience and training to better equip each participant with the skills needed for a highly competitive job market. SOLDIER & FAMILY ASSISTANCE CENTER CHILD CARE SUPPORT
Liaison and referral services are provided for Warriors in Transition (WTU) Soldiers and their families. Free child care is provided at the Soldier & Family Assistance Center for children of WTU Soldiers provided through the Army Family Covenant.
